Botox & Dysport FAQ
BOTOX® Cosmetic can relieve these lines and wrinkles by relaxing the underlying muscle contractions. The Botox then produces a relaxed, smoothed out appearance within 3- 14 days. At last, one less thing to worry about!!
DYSPORT was recently approved by the FDA. Dysport consists of the same basic ingredient as Botox, which is Botulinum Toxin A.
The available medical literature so far shows that Dysport and BOTOX® Cosmetic have similar mechanisms of action that relax the muscles that make wrinkle-causing expressions.
The effects of Dysport are said to last 20% (approximately 1 month) longer than Botox!
Frequently Asked Questions
What are BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport?
Botox is a natural, purified protein that relaxes muscles by blocking nerve impulses. Once the muscles are at rest, the skin becomes smoother, creating a more natural and relaxed appearance.
What are BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport made of?
Botox is a formulation of Botulinum Toxin type A, a natural purified protein.
How are BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport different from other procedures?
Botox blocks nerve transmission to relax the underlying muscles beneath the skin. The effect is not permanent, lasting about four months.
How are BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport different from fillers?
Botox is a protein that relaxes the muscles that create lines whereas filler is an agent that fills in the lines.
Are BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport approved by the FDA?
Botox Cosmetic was approved by the FDA in April 2002 and Dysport in April of 2009 for cosmetic use.
How safe is BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport?
Botox has safely treated a variety of conditions for more than 15 years.
What area can be treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport?
Botox is used to treat frown lines, forehead creases and crow’s feet around the eyes. It can also minimize a dimpled chin and around the mouth.
Dysport is most commonly used in the glabella area between the brows.
How long does the procedure take?
BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport injections take approximately 10 minutes to administer.
Do the injections hurt?
Most of our BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport patients compare the sensation of receiving an injection to a bug bite. Overall, the discomfort should be minimal and temporary.
What should I do prior to treatment?
The use of aspirin, anti-inflammatory medications and alcohol should be stopped approximately two days before treatments to reduce potential bruising or swelling.
What should I do after treatment?
No exercising or lying down for two hours after injections is recommended. Do not excessively touch the area that was treated for the first 4 hours after injection.
How will I look after the treatment?
Although the results are dramatic, treatments should not radically change facial appearance. The muscles are simply relaxed, so lines and wrinkles disappear, and smiles (and frowns) remain.
How long does it last?
The effects last for three to four months for most individuals. When the BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport treatment wears off, wrinkles and lines will gradually revert to pre-treatment appearance. Because BOTOX® Cosmetic is a natural, purified protein, over time Botox and Dysport is slowly absorbed and processed by the body.
How often do I need to be treated?
New Trend Medical Spa recommends scheduling treatments about every three to four months to help maintain a consistent appearance.?
